How to choose hospital management software in India
A buyer checklist for clinics and hospitals: roles, OPD to IPD loop, ABDM path, pricing seats, offline needs and training. Use it on every vendor demo.
Demo the full patient journey
Do not buy from a slide deck. In one sitting, ask the vendor to register a patient, book or walk in, run a consult with Rx, collect a bill, raise a lab order to publish, and (if you have wards) admit and schedule a doctor visit. Time each step with your actual staff watching.
Confirm role homes: admin, doctor and front desk should not share one overloaded screen. Patient portal booking and report access are optional for day one but matter if you want fewer phone calls for appointments and PDFs.
Check India specific requirements early
Ask how the product approaches ABHA linking, facility registry connection and sandbox milestones if you need ABDM readiness. Confirm GST capable invoicing, Indian mobile validation, and WhatsApp notification hooks your patients already use.
Data residency and backup story matter for cloud HMIS. Clarify who can export patients, invoices and Rx, and whether doctors can work offline for add patient, consult, Rx and billing when the network drops.
Price seats, modules and lock risk
Understand admin, doctor and front desk seats, what happens when you hit the cap, and whether modules (lab, IPD, data hub, audit) are included or add-ons. Locked pages that force an upgrade mid month frustrate teams; see the locked list before you migrate.
Training and go live support decide success more than feature count. Budget for a week of parallel paper and software, not a weekend cutover. Prefer vendors who let you invite staff after the owner admin is live, rather than forcing a long implementation SOW for a twenty bed hospital.
Where MedBharat fits
MedBharat is a multi-tenant hospital and clinic platform for India: OPD appointments and queue, Visit Pad prescriptions, lab, IPD visits, billing, WhatsApp updates, ABDM oriented settings and a patient portal, with separate logins per role. Use the public Demo to click the admin, doctor and front desk shells before you sign up.
If your checklist above matches that loop, create a hospital on the free tier, invite your team, and run one real OPD half day. Software that survives a busy morning is the software worth keeping.
